With profound sorrow and unwavering faith in God’s promises, we announce the passing of Zachary Allan Hillis, a devoted son, loyal friend, and cherished fiancé, who was suddenly called home to be with the Lord following an unexpected cardiac event on March 8, 2026 at the age of 32.

Zach was born on July 14, 1993, and was known for his kindness, integrity, and the steady way he showed up for the people he loved. He had a gift for making others feel welcome and valued, and his presence brought laughter, warmth, and encouragement to those around him. Whether spending time with friends, supporting family, or sharing in everyday moments, Zach’s genuine heart left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Zach was a proud graduate of West Virginia University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management and a Master’s degree in Industrial Labor Relations. During his time at WVU, he served as the manager for the women’s basketball team, reflecting his passion for sports, teamwork, and supporting others behind the scenes.

Zach served others through community banking. For more than six years, he worked with ACNB Bank, most recently serving as the Community Bank Manager in Taneytown, Maryland. He approached his work as an opportunity to care for people, building trust with clients and colleagues through his integrity, kindness, and steady presence. Those who worked with him knew him as someone who treated others with respect, generosity, and a genuine desire to help.

Zach’s faith in Christ was an important foundation in his life. He attended Passion City Church in Washington, D.C., where he found encouragement in worship, community, and the truth of God’s Word. His life reflected trust in the Lord and a genuine love for others.

He was deeply loved by his family and friends, and especially by his fiancée, Madison Wallender, with whom he shared a joyful and faith-filled love. Their relationship was built on friendship, laughter, and a shared trust in God’s plan for their lives. Together they looked forward to building a life and family rooted in faith, love, and commitment.

Zach will be remembered for his generous spirit, unwavering loyalty, and the joy he brought into the lives of those around him. Though our hearts are shattered by this sudden loss, we take comfort in the promise of eternal life and the hope of being reunited again.

He is survived by his beloved fiancé Madison Wallender; mother, Michele Zaruba, siblings Benjamin and Annamae; father, James Black (Marjorie Goode), brother Cole; and many family members and friends who were blessed to know and love him.

A visitation will be held Friday, March 20, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory 1212 West Old liberty Road Sykesville, MD 21784.

In this time of deep grief, we hold onto the promise of Scripture:

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18 (ESV)
