William Lee Harris, 79 of Mt. Airy, died Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at his home.
He was born December 5, 1938 in Frederick County, MD the son of the late John E. Harris and the late Ruth Garver Harris.
He was the loving husband of Glenda Buckingham Harris, for 58 years.
Bill graduated from Mt. Airy High School in 1957. He served in the United States Army Reserves for 8 years. He was employed as a truck driver at Hahn Transportation and Maryland Transportation. He was then employed as the terminal manager at Matlack, Inc. and Standard Building Systems. After which time, he was the owner/operator of Mt. Airy Exxon and Bill’s Gas and Diesel. He enjoyed traveling in his RV, NASCAR, and hunting. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an active member of Taylorsville United Methodist Church, where he served as a Trustee and member of numerous other committees. He served as the president of Taylorsville Cemetery for 20 years.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters, Cynthia Harris, of Mt. Airy and Vicky Patterson, and husband Gary, of Westminster, grandchildren Bryan Smith, Emily Smith, Delaney Patterson, Garrett Patterson, Spencer Patterson and great-grandchildren Brianna Smith and Levi Smith. He was predeceased by brother John Robert Harris.
The Family will receive friends on Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1212 West Old Liberty Road, Winfield, MD 21784. Where the funeral service will be held on Friday, July 6, 2018 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Art Monroe officiating.
Interment to follow at Taylorsville Cemetery.
