Truman Wayne Barnes, 86, of Taylorsville, MD passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, due to complications of Parkinson’s Disease. He was born February 20, 1940, in Taylorsville, MD. He was the son of the late Truman R. and Virgie M. (nee Welsh) Barnes. He was the loving husband to his wife, Ellen “Sis” (nee Spencer) Barnes for 63 years.
He entered the Army Reserves at 21 with his best friend, the late Larry Gartrell. He completed basic training and a lineman’s course. He was active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He received an honorable discharge as a Sargeant after 6 years of service. Making a career from his lineman’s training he went on to work for various independent contractors before becoming an employee for BG&E in 1978. He retired after 30+ years of perfect attendance. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, and watching the Orioles and Ravens and his grandchildren’s ball games.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son C. Wayne Barnes and wife Regina and daughter Barbara (nee Barnes) Schatz and husband David. Grandchildren Lauren (nee Schatz) Gambrell and husband George, Bradley Schatz and wife Morgan, Leeanna (nee Barnes) Ruby and husband David and Kelly Schatz. Great-grandchildren Kayley Gambrell, Grant Gambrell, Grayson Gambrell, Hudson Ruby, Caeden Schatz, Marcella Shepherd and Louisa Shepherd. He was predeceased by sisters Elizabeth (nee Barnes) Haines, Dorothy (nee Barnes) Zavona and granddaughter Kristen Schatz.
Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, 1212 West Old Liberty Road Sykesville, MD 21784 on Sunday, March 22, 2026, from 6-8 PM; where funeral services will be held on Monday, March 23, 2026, at 11 AM.
Interment to follow at Taylorsville Cemetery.
