Ron enlisted in the US Army after high school for a three-year period. He was stationed primarily in Sogel, Germany, and later in Seneca, New York, working as a Nuclear Weapons Maintenance Specialist.

Ron was married to Cheryl “Sherry” Schwedes on April 5, 1966, prior to shipping out to Germany. Sherry joined him in Sogel six months later, and they went on a honeymoon to Nice, France. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary this year!

Ron is survived by Sherry, two children: Ronald Schwedes, Jr., married to Cathy; Melanie Wisner, married to Tom; and three grandchildren: Dawson Wisner, Logan Wisner, and Summer Schwedes (in order of birth).

After the Army Ron took up an apprenticeship with the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union No. 486. He became a Master Plumber and Pipe Welder. After 11 years he began his own business as a Master Plumber and as a Welding Subcontractor for Baltimore Gas & Electric. His final career was working for Howard County Government as a Plumbing and Mechanical Inspector, retiring in 2007. During his lifetime Ron built three homes and resided in the last one prior to his death.

Ron will be remembered for his warm smile, thoughtfulness, always putting others first, and for his many acts of service. He was a member of the Worldwide Church of God and later the United Church of God.
