Matthew Christopher Harris, age 54, of Mount Airy, Maryland, left our world peacefully on December 24th, wrapped in the love of the ladies who meant everything to him. If you ever shared a laugh, a crab feast, or a sporting event with Matt, you would know his life was measured in joy, humor, and the way he made everyone feel welcomed.

Born in Montgomery County, Maryland, Matt grew up in Rockville during an era without cell phones, just a rule that you had to be home before the street lights came on. It was in those carefree days that he formed nearly 50 year friendships with his best friends from the neighborhood. After graduating from Wheaton High School, he began working in the outdoor power equipment industry, spending the last 15 years with Rippeon Equipment in Gaithersburg, where coworkers and customers quickly became like family.

Matt loved many things, but three that top the list are the Pittsburgh Steelers, picking crabs, and being a girl dad.

He leaves behind his greatest loves, wife of 31 years Gretchen (Bennett) Harris, and their daughters Kaylyn (and fiancé Garrett Colvin), Leanne, and Mandy. No matter how tough or busy life became, Matt always made sure to make his girls laugh and teach them to love much and live fully.

He is also survived by his parents Carolyn and Bud Wallace of Maugansville, brother Brian Wallace and his wife Katie of Hagerstown, and sister Jennette Wallace of California. He joins sister Sheri Wallace Gemmell in afterlife. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who adored him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at noon at the American Legion, 801 Prospect Road, Mount Airy, Maryland. In true Matt fashion and in honor of his love for the Steelers and the joy of Superbowl weekend, attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite sports team attire.
