Born in Warwick, New York on August 31, 1921, she was the daughter of Edwin Sheild, III and Kathryn Todd. Her beloved husband, Joseph Raymond Newland, preceded her in death.

Larson and husband Clayton of Union Bridge; grandchildren Jeffrey T. Martinez, Emily S. Forehand, Amy M. Parrish, Christopher G. Stewart, and Grace N. Stankus; and four great-grandchildren.
She grew up in Westfield, New Jersey, often visited her grandparents on their dairy farm in Bellvale, New York, and attended the Maryland College for Women in 1940. Married to her husband in Dillon, South Carolina in 1950, she was a wife, mother, and part-time bookkeeper while raising her family in Silver Spring.
Once retired to their farm in Fishertown, Pennsylvania in 1986, Kay owned an antique shop, Katydid Studio, in neighboring Schellsburg for 15 years. She was a life-long gardener, member of numerous garden clubs, and gardened almost until her death.
Kay loved genealogy and compiled an extensive genealogical history of her family back to the 1600’s over 40 years. She was a member of the DAR for five decades and also a French Huguenot. Kay was an artist, collector of Raggedy Ann dolls and memorabilia, and enjoyed many other hobbies throughout her life.
