Joseph “Joe” Anthony Martin 71, of Winfield, Maryland, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on August 14, 2026, at University of Maryland Medical Center. Born on March 29, 1955 in Baltimore he was the son of the late Philip and Theresa “Ann” (Dyson) Martin.
Joe was a loving husband of 37 years to Lisa (Lentzner) Martin, an extremely proud father to Joey Martin and his wife Emily & Nick Martin; he was the BEST grandfather “Olpa” to Jolene and Mason Martin. He was a wonderful brother to Barb Carr and Pam Martin. A great son -in-law to Pat Lentzner and brother-in-law to Donnie Lentzner, a caring uncle to Rachel Carr and several other nieces and a nephew, also many close friends that we will cherish.
He was the owner/operator of J.A. Martin Contracting for over 40 years and loved his work. In the late 1970s and 1980s he worked for Maryland Co-op Milk Producers as a service repairman and co-owned a business to install lifts into handicap buses.
Joe was a lover of the outdoors & enjoyed spending time fishing on his boat, target shooting firearms, older country music and was often found doing projects with his skid loaders and excavator, caring for the lawn, or working on something in his shed. Joe was a handyman and could fix almost anything. He was the man everyone called on when they needed help or advice and was always happy to do so. His most precious moments were spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Richard (Rick) Martin, Philip (Bud) Martin and father-in-law Donald Lentzner.
We would like to thank all the medical staff who have cared for Joe through his lung transplant journey and beyond. There are far too many to name.
