John Mcginnis

John E. McGinnis, age 87, of Cape Coral, Florida, formerly of Sykesville, died Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster, MD.
He was born December 18, 1925 in Woodlawn, MD, the son of the late William G. McGinnis and the late Martha Ellen Sakers McGinnis.
He was the husband of Hedy B. McGinnis (nee Busold) for 64 years.
He was in the US Merchant Marines and the US Army-82nd Airbourne Paratrooper. He was instrumental in starting Youth for Christ in Germany while in the Service. He was a carpenter/stair builder by trade building houses in Howard County, Baltimore County, Baltimore City and Carroll County and he was the developer for Strawbridge Estates, Presidential Park and White Rock Road. He was a Charter Member for Freedom Optimist Club, Director for Woodbine Bank which became Westminster Bank & Trust. An active member of Freedom U.M. Church until his health deteriorated.
Survived by daughter Bonnie McGinnis of Sykesville, and son Gary P. McGinnis and wife Karen of Sykesville; grandchildren Matthew McDearmon of Sykesville, Amanda Miller of Jacksonville, FL, Laura Garver and husband Jason of Keymar, and Lee McGinnis of Sykesville. He was also grandfather to Dwayne and Amy Miller of Stafford, VA and Shawn and Kristen Miller of Sykesville; also survived by 7 great grandchildren.

Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD (Beside South Carroll High School) on Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Wednesday from 12:00-1:00 at Wesley Freedom U.M. Church, 961 Johnsville Road, Eldersburg, at which time Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Dr. Bill Brown officiating.
Interment Freedom Cemetery.
