Jerry Ellwood Knight, age 83, of Mount Airy, died Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Northampton Manor Health Care Center in Frederick, MD.
He was born March 24, 1930 in Barboursville, VA the son of the late Charles Knight and the late Maude Haney Knight.
He retired as a grounds foreman for Smokey Glen Farms Barbequers in Gaithersburg, MD; He was an avid boater, enjoyed fishing and gardening, loved animals and above all was an excellent Musician, Which has been carried on for several generations, especially steel and electric guitar. He was a founder of “The Knight Brothers” and also belonged to "The Country Gospel Singers". He loved to play music especially Country Gospel Music throughout his life. He was also enjoyed body building. He was a very religious and spiritual care giving person that touched many lives. He was a Lifetime member of Mt. Airy VFW Post and he served in the US Army during the Korean War.
He was the husband of the late Florence Virginia Harrison Knight.
He was the father of Wendy Clements of Mt. Airy, Margaret Murphy of Georgia, Robert Knight of Myrtle Beach, SC, Shelby Knight of Waldorf, MD and the late Kenny Knight.
Brother of- Anna Mae Melton of VA, Georgie Starcey of Indiana, Phyllis Windsor and Walter Knight of Monrovia, MD, Carl Knight and Arnette Knight of FL, and the late Alexander Knight, Charles Knight, Norma Knight and Carrie Lamb.
He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; especially Jennifer Clements (tinky) who helped take care of him, and numerous Special nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
A Private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
