OBITUARY JANICE HARNER GUYNN

Janice Harner Guynn, 96, of Woodbine, passed away on December 19, 2025, at Dove House/Bridging Life in Westminster, MD. Born January 29, 1929, in Ceres, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late William Ray Harner and Floy Repass Harner. She was the devoted wife of the late Horace Greeley Guynn, Jr., who died in 2003.

Janice was an LPN at Springfield Hospital Center, retiring in 1991. In prior years, as well as running the family farm, she was a substitute teacher and school bus driver. She was a charter member of the Winfield and Community Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, volunteering for many years. She was a long-time, active member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Winfield.

She was a prolific gardener of both vegetables and flowers. She was well-known for her African violets, both propagating and growing as many as 125 at one time. It gave her great pleasure to donate them to the fire department and churches for their fund-raising activities. She also enjoyed reading and playing games, especially rummy and Scrabble.

Janice was a devoted mother and grandmother, the heart and backbone of her family. She was a giver who never turned away anyone in need.

Surviving are her four children, Karen Krug and husband Dan of Lineboro, Gary Guynn and wife Judy of Taneytown, Richard Guynn and wife Susan of Frederick, and Sharon Llera and husband Tony of Key Largo, FL; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren with another on the way and would have been delighted to learn of her first great-great grandchild in 2026. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, one special nephew-in-law Alan Fink, and one sister Shirley Bishop. She was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., located at 1212 West Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD, 21784 (beside South Carroll High School), from 9 to 11 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. Interment will take place immediately after at Taylorsville United Methodist Church followed by a reception at Ebenezer Methodist Church, 4901 Woodbine Rd., Sykesville, MD 21784.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to Bridging Life-Dove House, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
