Janet Ann Lafferty, age 80, of Mt Airy, entered her heavenly home, on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Silverado Memory Care. She was surrounded by her immediate family when she gained her angel wings. Born September 22, 1945, in Frederick MD., the daughter of Theodore Martin and Anna Kate Martin (Baker).
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 50 years, Roger Lee Lafferty, son-in-law, Bill Jenkins, brother, James Martin, sister, Ruth Martin Smith, brother-in-law, Steven Smith and sister-in-law, Marjorie Martin. She is survived by her daughters: Laura Beall and husband, David; Kelli Jenkins; Christina Smith and husband Leroy; grandchildren; Miriah Messinger and husband Josh, Ava Jenkins, Olivia Jenkins and Wyatt Smith; great-granddaughters; Aurora Messinger and Payson Messinger. She is also survived by a brother Robert Martin, sister-in-law, Connie Sloniger and husband John, many nieces and nephews, and her dear friend of many years, June VonEiff.
Janet grew up in Unionville Md and graduated from Linganore High School in 1963.
In her early years, Janet worked in the offices of R. F. Kline and Interstate Bridge. During this time, she met the love of her life Roger, and they were married on March 24, 1968. After raising her three girls, Janet returned to the workforce as a bank teller with Woodsboro Bank, followed by many years with Farmers and Mechanics Bank in Libertytown until she retired from PNC Bank.
Janet was a Deacon and dedicated member of Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, where she served as treasurer for 40 years. She was a member of the Linganore Grange. She spent much of her life, gardening and preserving the harvest, baking, preparing meals and hosting many family events, as well as always helping and serving others.
Friends will be received Wednesday, August 5, 2026 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784. Funeral services will take place Thursday, August 6, 2026 11 AM at Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, 13356 Glissans Mill Rd. Mt. Airy, MD 21771.
Interment will be in the Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Locust Grove Church of the Brethren.
