James William Shugars, Sr., age 77, of Sykesville, died Saturday, November 2, 2013 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD.
He was born January 30, 1936 in Baltimore, MD the son of the late Alvin M. Shugars and the late Ruth N. Shugars (nee Hauk).
He was the husband of Barbara Lee Gurdison Shugars, his wife of 56 years.
He was a retired Computer System Analyst for Social Security Administration. Before his illnesses he sang in different church choirs and was a Sunday school teacher. He was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church in Mt. Airy, MD.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid fisherman and home team’s sports fan. He loved to share the gospel message to those he can in contact with. He graduated from University of MD in 1967; he majored in Business Administration and carried minors in Sociology and Psychology. He graduated in 1991 with a Master of Divinity from Luther Rice Seminary in Jacksonville, FL.
He was the father of James Shugars, Jr. and wife Theresa of Westminster, Susan Anne Shugars of Hampstead.
He was the brother of Betty Jean Parker of Sykesville and Mozelle V. Judge and husband James of Sykesville.
Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Grandfather of Eric James Shugars and Stephanie Ann Shugars both of Westminster.
Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, with the Rev. Keith Vincent officiating.
Interment Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville, MD
