James Andrew “Jim” Hurley, 70, of Eldersburg, Maryland passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, in the early morning hours. He went to be with the Lord surrounded by love, as family members sat with him speaking, singing, and praying together.

Jim was born on November 6, 1955 in the Boston, Massachusetts area, the son of John Paul Hurley and Patricia Anne Hurley née O’Neill.

Jim graduated from South Carroll High School in 1973, and briefly studied at Salisbury State College before going to work to support his young family.

Throughout his career, Jim worked with computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) systems in the garment industry. He first operated the systems and later became a salesman for the equipment he once worked with, bringing both technical knowledge and hands-on experience to the field. He also worked in roofing sales and in support roles for seniors and people with disabilities.

He went on to complete a degree in biblical studies and ministry at Charis Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He ministered in many ways in church communities in Colorado, California, Georgia, and Maryland. Jim offered messages at services, sang in choirs, presided at weddings and funerals, served in church leadership roles, gave testimonies and witnesses, and was a spiritual mentor for young people. In recent years he was a deacon at Freedom Church and helped launch Cedar House Church, both in Westminster, Maryland.

Jim married Linda Brooke Hurley née Gibbons on September 21, 2021 in Westminster, Maryland. Together they shared four and a half years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, faith, and companionship.

Jim was known for being loving, peaceful, and passionate, with a great sense of humor that brought joy to those around him. His love of writing and music were passions that brought him deep fulfillment and creativity throughout his life, especially writing pieces he called “Present Day Psalms.”

Those who knew Jim will remember his thoughtful spirit, meaningful conversations, and the calm presence he carried wherever he went. He was a devoted servant and worker for Christ with a pastor’s heart.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his daughters Colleen Christina Hurley and Jaime Lyn Turgyan, his son Phillip Ryan Hurley, S.J.; his stepdaughters Ilyene Brooke Reid and Rebecca Lynn Durana; stepgrandchildren Avery, Grant, and Willa Reid, and Lexington Durana; his brothers Michael, John, Thomas, Christopher, and Peter Hurley, and many extended family members and friends. Jim also leaves behind the joyful anticipation of welcoming his first grandchild in May of 2026, a blessing that brought great happiness to him and his family.
