On Wednesday, December 31, 2025 (NYE), Irene Marie Mitchell (nee Conn), passed safely into the arms of Jesus her savior at the age of 102.
She was the wife of the late Frank W. Mitchell for 57 years.
She was the daughter of the late Oliver C. Conn & the late Lillian S. Conn (nee Schmidt).
She was a current resident of Carroll Lutheran Village, of Westminster, MD where she had lived for the last 20 years.
She was a faithful friend to many, one whose encouragement would almost always include a verse or two of the Bible. But most who knew her, especially in her younger years, will remember her love of music and the joy she brought to others with her offerings of praise delivered in her sweet soprano voice. Her favorite hymn was “It is Well with my Soul”. If there was a choir near her, she was probably in it. For her young children at the time, home was the training ground that made them believe that every family sang in the kitchen while doing the dishes after supper each evening. As good a memory as it gets. Irene’s voice in later years was compromised, but even then, she still had a song in her heart, and now the heavenly choir has a new angel.
Her work career was being a full-time mom to three children. When the children were grown, she ran the office of a manufacturing business that she owned jointly with her husband Frank until she retired. Irene is survived by her son Charles E. Mitchell (Sally) and a daughter Jo Mitchell (Nancy). Also survived by her grandchildren Tim Mitchell (Morgan) and Mark Mitchell (Amanda); eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son John Allan Mitchell who died in 1953, a grandson John Edward Mitchell who died in infancy and her younger brother Charles Oliver Conn, a United States Navy veteran who died before his 30th birthday.
Irene's greatest joy was her family. Her greatest achievement was gaining entrance into heaven solely by and through the marvelous grace of her loving Lord.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at a date and location to be announced later.
Interment will be private.
