Helen Archer

Helen Archer, 79, of Perry Hall, MD, affectionately known to many as "Nanny," passed away in the early morning hours on July 26, 2026, at the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born on March 9, 1947, in Westminster, MD, she was the loving daughter of the late Mary Addellia Guy Horton (nee Yohn) and the late Harry Guy.

She loved playing bingo, traveling, visiting casinos, and taking her cherished road trips to Maine to visit longtime friends. She always looked forward to her regular luncheons with her girlfriends and the annual get-togethers with her former classmates. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Her family was the center of her world, and every moment spent together was a memory she held dear.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Valerie Novak, and her husband, Steve; her beloved grandchildren, Stephen M. Novak, Danny Novak and his wife Daria, Roman Doyle, and Dalaney Doyle; and her precious great-grandchildren, Daniel and Jolene Novak. She is also survived by her sister, Wanda Legore, and was preceded in death by her youngest sister, Brenda Martindale.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, 1212 West Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD 21784 (located beside South Carroll High School). A short prayer service to celebrate her life will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Park.
