Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frederick Wayne Winkler, of Woodbine, Maryland, who left us on May 22, 2025, at the age of 87.
Wayne or “Wink,” as he was affectionately known to many, was a devoted husband to Patricia (nee Norris) for 66 years, and father to Katie Winkler and Jeff (Rhonda) Winkler, of Woodbine, and Jamie (Cynthia) Winkler of Atlanta, Georgia. Survivors also include two brothers, Joseph Winkler of Taylorsville, Utah, and Jerome Winkler of Asheville, North Carolina, nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Louise Winkler, his brothers Donald, Lawrence and Glenn Winkler, and sisters Dorothy Bowers, Val Robertson, and Shirley Doyle.
He served with pride and distinction in the Baltimore City Fire Department for 30 years, rising to the rank of lieutenant. Following his retirement from the Fire Department, he began a second career as working proprietor of Arbutus Texaco from 1985 to 2003. He found joy in rebuilding Farmall tractors and old cars, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Burrier Queen Funeral Home in Sykesville, Maryland, on Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 3:00-5:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1125 St. Michael’s Rd., Mt. Airy, Maryland, on May 30 at 10:30 AM, with interment to follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
