Ethel M. Sirk (nee Lefever), age 88, of Woodbine, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 10, 2014 at her home with family and friends by her side.
Ethel was born on May 30, 1925 in Lancaster, PA, the daughter of the late George and Mary Lefever.
She was born and raised in Lancaster, PA., in later years she moved to MD where she resided. She was employed by J.C. Murphy of Rockville, and the United States Post Office in Laytonsville, MD. Ethel married Herman Cliffton Sirk, Sr. on July 11, 1970. They were side by side for 43 wonderful years. After marrying Herman they would become foster parents to over 70 children. Ethel was a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school, family reunions, cooking, sewing, and spending time with family and friends. She was a very loving and caring lady. She will truly be missed by many.
Ethel is survived by her loving husband Herman C. Sirk, Sr. of Woodbine, along with 5 children; Herman Sirk, Jr. and wife Betty of Woodbine, Jeffrey J. Sirk and wife Tammy of Damascus, Carolyn Sirk Williams of Woodbine, Regina M. Turner and husband Dominick of Woodbine, John B. Sirk and wife Holly of Woodbine.; 9 grandchildren, J.T. Williams, Kari Sirk, Donna Kimmble, David, Daniel, Darren, Donald, Dana Sirk and Marissa Boland; 10 great grandchildren, Ayana, Jahquan, Alora, Marcus, Russell, Reed, Mairick, Stephanie Lynn, Kristian, and Secria. She was preceded by a foster son Elmer Wheeler, Jr.
Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD (Beside South Carroll High School) on Friday 6-8 PM and Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 10-11:00 AM at which time Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM with Rev. Irvin Martin, Jr. and Rev. Ernie Knight officiating.
Interment Montgomery Cemetery in Damascus, MD.
There will be a celebration of Ethel Sirk life to follow at the Lisbon Vol. Fire Dept., Lisbon, MD.
