Elizabeth (Betsy) Leota Ross Jones died peacefully at Transitions
Health Care in Sykesville Maryland at the age of 96 on February 5, 2016.

Betsy was born about 100 miles south of Chicago in Champagne Illinois on November
23, 1919. Her family then moved to Tacoma Park, MD. Her maiden nick-name was Betsy Ross,
and she was in the Takoma Park 4th of July Parade as Betsy Ross in 1928.
Her brother, Malcolm Ross, was born in 1929 and their Parents were
Clearance S. Ross & Helen Frederick Ross.

Betsy graduated from High School in 1937. She enrolled in the University of
Maryland at College Park, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in
Biology in 1941, several months before the Perl Harbor tragedy. Betsy then taught the
1941-1942 school year at Bethesda Chevy Chase High School. In the fall of 1942,
She returned to Illinois to start her Master's degree at the University of
Illinois at Champagne-Urbana. In 1943, she received her Master's of
Science Degree in Biology and returned to Tacoma Park where she continued
teaching at Bethesda Chevy Chase High School until 1948.

In September 1948, she married Morris Thompson Jones and moved to
Oak Park Illinois, just outside of Chicago. After the birth of her two sons,
Morris took a job with the National Institute of Health, when Morris and Betsy
Moved back to Bethesda in 1956. She and Morris were married for 54 years
prior to his death in August 2002.

She was a devoted wife and devoted mother to her two sons, Gregory Morris Jones
of Frederick, MD. and, Bruce Lee Jones, of Centerville, Va. She enjoyed
her four grandchildren Brian Morris Jones, Kristen Jones Askarian,
Timothy Reaver Jones, and Roy Franklin Jones.

Betsy was a founding member of Bethesda Congregational Church in 1957 where she
taught Sunday School. She was loved bird watching, to read and to play bridge.
Her family vacationed at the Outer Banks when she was a child in the 1930s,
and she continued the tradition by vacationing on the Outer Banks with her
children and grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM, immediately
prior to the Memorial Service. The Memorial Service will start at
10:30 at Burrier Queen Funeral Home, 1212 West Old Liberty Road,
Winfield, MD 21784. Internment immediately following the service at
Linganore Cemetery, Unionville, MD.
