Dr. Robert Ray Foreman

Dr. Robert Ray Foreman, a distinguished leader in the fields of dentistry and pharmacy, passed away on August 4, 2026, in Baltimore, Maryland. Born in Baltimore on December 14, 1951, Dr. Foreman’s life was defined by an unwavering commitment to education, professional excellence, and community service.

Dr. Foreman’s academic journey began at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy with Honors in 1974. His remarkable performance and dedication earned him induction into the prestigious Rho Chi National Pharmacy Honors Fraternity. Then worked at the National Cancer Institute, supporting clinical trials of novel cancer drugs. Driven by a passion for health care and patient well-being, Dr. Foreman continued his education at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1983. He was recognized for his commitment to the dental profession through admittance into the Gorgas Odontological Society, a testament to his scholastic accomplishments and professional promise.

Dr. Foreman excelled in both academic and clinical realms. Dr. Foreman ran 2 practices in Maryland and then Vermont. He served as Dental School Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry from 2005 through 2012, where he shaped the formative experiences of countless dental students. From 2009 to September 2012, he provided critical leadership as the Associate Executive Director of General Practice Clinics and as a member of the Clinic Operations Board at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. These roles highlighted his capacity for visionary stewardship and practical innovation within dental education and clinical management.

Dr. Foreman’s professional journey brought him to East Carolina University (ECU) School of Dental Medicine in September 2012. There, he became the Director of Clinics, overseeing the operational and clinical aspects of the institution with diligence and compassion. He was appointed Clinical Assistant Professor, bringing his expertise and mentorship to a new generation of dental practitioners. In May 2013, Dr. Foreman assumed the role of Interim Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, and by May 2016, became Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, a position that solidified his standing as a central figure in the development of clinical education and outreach at ECU.

Dr. Foreman was an active participant in the professional community. He was a member of the American Dental Association and the North Carolina Dental Society at the time of his passing. His previous affiliations reflected his breadth of service and commitment, including memberships in the Maryland State Dental Society, Carroll County Dental Society, Baltimore County Dental Association, Vermont State Dental Society, Academy of General Dentistry, American Society of Hospital Pharmacists, Maryland Society of Hospital Pharmacists, American Pharmaceutical Association, and Maryland Pharmaceutical Association.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Foreman’s expertise garnered significant recognition from his peers. His commitment to clinical education and excellence in oral health care was informed by a deep sense of responsibility to both students and patients alike.

Dr. Foreman is survived by his devoted wife, Nisha Ganesh; his loving children, Jessica Erin Foreman & future son in law Tim, Jason Robert Foreman & wife Jenny, Justin Ian Foreman and Christopher Robin Foreman & wife Rachel; his cherished grandchildren, Wolkan, Henning, and Bronwyn Foreman; his brothers, Melvin Foreman, Jr. and Jay Forman; and his sister, Linda Mohr. Each of them carries forward his legacy of compassion, commitment, and integrity.

A Memorial Gathering to honor and remember Dr. Foreman’s life and career will be held on August 7, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 1212 W Old Liberty Rd, Sykesville, MD 21784. Family, friends, colleagues, and all whose lives were influenced by Dr. Foreman are invited to attend and pay their respects.
