Dean Christopher Hartman

Dean Christopher Hartman, born July 12, 1973, passed away on August 25, 2026, at the age of 53, surrounded by his loved ones. Dean spent most of his life in Sykesville, Maryland, though he treasured the years he lived in Northern California, embracing its easygoing rhythm and open-air spirit.

A 1991 graduate of South Carroll High School, Dean built a life grounded in hard work, devotion to family, and a joyful energy that lifted everyone around him. His presence was a steady source of warmth, humor, and kindness in every community he touched.

Dean was the devoted father of Alexandra “Alex” Hartman, the light of his life, shared with his former wife, Meredith McCullen. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Garrett, and stepfather, David Garrett; his father, Jeffrey Hartman, and stepmother, Deb Hartman. He leaves behind his siblings: Dylan Hartman (Jennifer Hartman), Sara Vannette (Ryan Vannette), Christopher Garrett (Lauren Garrett), and Tonya Garrett. He was preceded in death by his brother, David “Lil Dave” Garrett, whose memory remained close to his heart.

Dean was a proud uncle to six nieces and nephews and four great-nephews, each of whom he loved and adored. He also leaves behind a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins — loud, loving, and exactly the kind of family he cherished.

A talented general contractor, Dean poured creativity, skill, and dedication into every project he touched. His craftsmanship stands as a lasting testament to his integrity, pride, and the care he put into his work.

Dean was a devoted fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens, cheering with unwavering enthusiasm season after season. More than anything, he was known for his radiant spirit. His laughter filled rooms, his generosity lifted others, and his heart made space for everyone.

Dean believed deeply in love: giving it freely, receiving it openly, and living it boldly. In the end, love is what remains — what we share, what we remember, and what we carry forward. His greatest lesson was simple and profound: we all need to love each other, and love is always enough.

Dean’s legacy is one of kindness, loyalty, and Love. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
