Charlotte Ruth Eaton, 82, of Sykesville, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly and at peace on Monday, April 6, 2026. Kenneth, her husband of 62 years, was by her side.
Charlotte was born in Washington, DC, on April 24, 1943. She was lovingly raised by her parents, Anna Marian Smith Parvis and Thomas Edgar Parvis, in Mt. Rainier, Maryland. She graduated from Northwestern High School. Charlotte was named after her beloved cousin, the late Charlotte Smith Needham, and some of her family affectionately referred to her as “Little Charlotte.”
She married Gary Kenneth Eaton on May 31, 1964. Together they had two children, Debra Leigh, born March 23, 1969, and Gary Kenneth, Jr., born October 6, 1970.
Charlotte was known for her kindness and generosity, her outgoing personality and sense of humor, and her strength of character. She loved to play Bingo throughout Carroll County, but her favorite was at Gamber & Community Fire Company on Tuesday nights, where she laughed, socialized, and enjoyed fellowship with her “Bingo Buddies” of 40+ years. Charlotte loved to dance and, just a few months ago, enjoyed a night of dancing to ‘50’s music with daughter Debbie and several of those “Bingo Buddies.”
While she was a homemaker for most of her life, she always found time to volunteer in the Special Education Department of Carroll County Public Schools. She worked for a short time as a Nursing Assistant at the old Westminster Nursing and Convalescent Center. Charlotte was a trusted volunteer at the former RCIS/Rape Crisis Intervention Service and was a lifelong champion of the underprivileged and underserved. Her life was marked by a deep sense of empathy and a commitment to helping those less fortunate. She had a special place in her heart for those who felt like outcasts or had been bullied or marginalized.
Charlotte was undeniably an amazing mother, but her most treasured role was that of nanny/nana to her beloved granddaughters Olivia and Natalie. She cultivated deeply personal and loving relationships with each of them. Their daily talks and weekly visits were precious. Together she and Ken traveled with Olivia and Natalie on a yearly basis to the mountains and beaches in the Southeastern United States. Charlotte would often joke that she “enjoyed grandparenting more than parenting!” Simply put, she laughed easily, she loved easily, and she didn’t know a stranger. Her sudden loss has hit hard.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth, daughter Debra and son-in-law Chad Minnich, and granddaughters Olivia Faith and Natalie Paige. She is also survived by her brother Bernie Bergling and sister-in-law Jane, nephew Tommy, and nieces Karen, Kristie, and Amanda, as well as several great nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her cherished son, Ken Eaton, Jr., her loving parents, Anna and Tom, and her beloved sister, Diane Elizabeth Parvis Ralston and brother-in-law Kenneth Ralston.
