Bryan Thomas Landry, Jr.

Bryan Thomas Landry, Jr. of Woodbine, MD died peacefully at home on Saturday, September 12, 2026. He was 81.

He was the beloved husband of Nancy Shute Landry for almost 47 years.

Born July 26, 1945, in Baltimore, MD; he was the son of the late Bryan Thomas Landry, Sr. and the late Josephine Martin Landry.

Bryan was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He joined the Navy after high school, first assigned to Fire Control School at Great Lakes Training Command, then C school at Dam Neck Virginia for advanced specialized training. His first ship assignment was the USS-Leahy DLG-16. He loved that the Navy allowed him to visit places all over the world, including Australia, Hawaii, Japan, and Peru. Following the Leahy’s decommissioning, he served on the USS Wainwright DLG-28, deploying to Vietnam twice. His six years of service became the foundation of a 40-year government contracting career.

As a young man, Bryan enjoyed hunting with his late brother-in-law Charlie and riding motorcycles. He played guitar and made jewelry.

Bryan married his wife Nancy in the fall of 1979. They had a wonderful time together raising their two girls and enjoying life. Whether watching the birds at the feeder while having their morning coffee, or eating lobster rolls on Cape Cod, or riding around in their convertible, Bryan loved spending time with Nancy.

Bryan was an avid golfer and played golf for most of his life. He loved being on the golf course and was thrilled when he got his first hole in one after the age of sixty. He had a brilliant mind when it came to figuring out how things worked and could fix just about anything—whether plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or computers. His penchant for fixing things and love of golf came together in a lifelong hobby of refurbishing and making golfclubs.

As many hobbies and interests as he had, his favorite time was time spent with his family. In 2005, Bryan was given the gift of a heart transplant at the Cleveland Clinic. That gift enabled Bryan to live almost another 21 years, allowing him to see his daughters graduate college, marry, and have his grandchildren. He adored his grandchildren and spent many hours attending soccer and baseball games, fixing their golf swings in the yard, and playing games with them around the dining table.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughters Karen Elizabeth Landry (Brett Kutscher) and Laura Ann Hawkins (Mitch); his 3 grandchildren; and his sister Janet Smirnow. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Elizabeth Ann Getscher.

A funeral service will be held Saturday September, 19, 2026 at 10 a.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Glenwood at the historic Union Chapel. Immediately following, a luncheon will be held at the 4-H Hall at the Howard County Fairgrounds.
