Betty Marie Wright Carey

Betty Marie Wright Carey, age 89, of Taylorsville passed away peacefully, Thursday, December 25, 2025, at Lorien Assisted Living in Taneytown, MD.

She was the loving wife of the late Jack Edwin Carey, married for 60 years.

She was born June 21, 1936, in Taylorsville, Maryland, the daughter of the late Frederick Talbert Wright and the late Grace Marie Grimes Wright.

Born and raised in Taylorsville; went to Winfield Elementary School, then Mt. Airy school; graduated from Mt. Airy High School in 1955, after school, went to work at Springfield State Hospital in Sykesville, later went to LPN school at Springfield, worked 30 years as an LPN.

She was an active member of Taylorsville United Methodist Church, serving on many committees over the years, member of the choir, and Women’s Club, and Knitting group. She enjoyed traveling, playing the piano and attending the festivities at church.

Surviving is her daughter Jacqueline D. Graham and Husband Douglas, granddaughter Rachael D. Graham Rothwell & husband Michael, step grandchildren Aimee and Lou Kawalek and Brenton and Lisa Graham; and 6 great-grandchildren; sister of Augustus and Peggy Wright and LeRoy Allan Wright; friend and companion Michael Yurko; predeceased by brother Robert Lee Wright.

Family will receive friends on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 10:00 AM- 11:00 AM at Taylorsville U.M. Church, 4356 Ridge Road, Mt. Airy, MD 21771, with a Memorial Service at starting 11:00 AM with Pastor Josh Gillen officiating.

Private Inurnment at Taylorsville Cemetery at a later date.
