Barbara Sue Conaway

Barbara Sue Conaway, 68, of Mt. Airy passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

She was born on December 29, 1957, the daughter of the late John Lawrence and Dorothy Alverta Dietz (nee Roach).

She loved Jesus and taught Sunday School and served at her church. She enjoyed time with family and friends, hiking in the woods; loved mountains and genealogy, quilting, travelling, playing cards, reading and cooking. She was a Member of Young Life Alumni, Ebenezer United Methodist Church and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Barb worked many different jobs including at the Circuit Court of Carroll County, the secretary for Ebenezer United Methodist Church, as a bank teller, a school bus driver for Carroll County public schools and for Wachter Auctions and Appraisals.

She is survived by her children: Charles Conaway III (Joy McBroom), Kelly Colson (Ray), and Jennifer Hagan (Michael); grandchildren: Logan, Will, Cash, Lincoln, and Grant; sister: Nancy Jean Eicholtz (Ray); and brother-in-law John Kotmair. Also survived by her grand dogs Jackson and Mico.

She was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Ann Kotmair

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 11, 2025, from 1-2 PM with a Celebration of Life Service starting at 2 PM at Ebenezer United Methodist Church 4901 Woodbine Rd, Sykesville, MD 21784. Barb asked everyone wear their favorite hat to the service since she loved her hats once she became bald.

In lieu of flowers, Barbara wanted friends to take a hike with Jesus to enjoy what God created, listen for birds, see the landscape, hear the stream flowing, smell the fresh air, hear the leaves crunch under your feet, and thank God.
